For my birthday, I escaped to the magical Areias do Seixo with two of my favourite girlies — and it was everything.
Tucked along Portugal’s wild west coast, this eco-luxury hotel was the perfect spot to unwind and celebrate. We started our days with morning yoga overlooking the dunes, then wandered barefoot through the gardens with coffee in hand. February might not scream “beach weather,” but that didn’t stop us from dipping into the icy Atlantic — giggling and freezing, but loving it. The beach, Praia da Mexilhoeira, is just a short sandy stroll from the hotel.

We spent lazy hours by the pool and took the hotel’s bikes for a spin to explore the windswept coastline. One of the absolute highlights? The bathtubs in the rooms — deep, sculptural stone tubs that invite long, steamy soaks with wine and music. We had many baths. No regrets.
But let’s talk about the food.
The farm-to-table restaurant at Areias do Seixo is a dream. Every dish is beautifully seasonal and made with ingredients from their own garden or sourced locally. From earthy root vegetables to just-caught fish and homemade bread, every bite tasted like care and intention. It wasn’t just a meal, it was a slow, soul-nourishing experience — and yes, the Vinho Verde was flowing.

To top it all off, we ventured to Noah’s Surf House, Areias do Seixo’s laid-back sister hotel in nearby Santa Cruz. We squeezed into wetsuits for a surf session (in February!) and laughed our way through the chilly waves. Afterwards, we warmed up with a delicious dinner at Noah’s — think ocean views, a relaxed vibe, and fresh, flavorful food that hit the spot.
We left salty, sun-kissed, a little tipsy, and totally recharged.
Areias do Seixo, we’ll be back.
